THE CONCEPT OF « MIGNONISME »

“Mignonisme is everywhere, it’s easy to find. If you assemble two objects that shouldn’t be together, you already have a story: the present, past and future.”Philippe Katerine

As artistic concept, Mignonisme – from “mignon”, “cute” in French – brings out the beauty in the ordinary and celebrates aesthetics in everyday life. More than just an artistic expression, Mignonism is a philosophy — a way of seeing and reinventing the world with open eyes and mind.

While isolated in the countryside during the pandemic in 2020, Philippe Katerine had the chance to experiment with the biggest playground of all: everyday life. Taking inspiration from his kitchen, his garden, his children’s toys, he played around with what he had at hand and created a fantastic world of his own.

From sketches, drawings and portraits to salt dough models, smiling ravioli and scrabble letters arranged on a plate, the artist assembles, designs, carves and photographs his artistic vision on the most unexpected media.

DON’T MISS OUT ON THE EXHIBITION LIVE EVENT

17th may – 20h
Performance-concert by « The Frères Philippe »
« Ce que je sais de la mort, ce que je sais de l’amour »
«  What I know about death, what I know about love »

Embark on an intimate journey with Philippe Katerine and Philippe Eveno (aka “Les Frères Philippe”) and enjoy the live performance Ce que je sais de la mort, ce que je sais de l’amour (What I know about death, what I know about love) for the first time abroad.

« Ce que je sais de la mort, ce que je sais de l’amour »

Based on a book written and illustrated by Philippe Katerine*, this two-part show starts with a lecture by the artist himself. With his trademark humor and sensitivity, Philippe Katerine delves into profound existential questions, engaging the audience in a thought-provoking exploration, through a live commentary of his own drawings.

As Philippe Eveno (guitar) enters the stage, music slowly takes over the philosophical journey. Combining reflections, improvisations and songs from Philippe Katerine’s repertoire, the “Frères Philippe” (“Philippe Brothers”) – as they playfully call themselves – offer a touching performance.
